Massive Live TV Events: Reddit vs Twitter?

While everyone is taking in the results of the massive election event, Alexis Ohanian, founder of Reddit, put a case forward on today's Web Summit in Lisbon, exclaiming that Reddit is the better option as a second screen for information while watching live events on TV.

"Hashtags are one of the greatest farces ever foisted upon us. No one follows them during a live event unless you want to see thousands of people shouting 'goal!' at the same time"

The complaint comes from how both system works, where Reddit's algorithms can find what's "hot" and new through algorithms and crowdsourcing, where Twitter's timeline simply shows a chronological view of anything all user say including the hashtag, where information can get lost.

Which do you turn to when you're looking at events as they happen?

Reddit or Twitter?
