Hey guys I'm running an old computer from 2005, and It has a very small amount of RAM. and I really want to upgrade the amount it has, but it runs on the old format of RAM [DDR] as opposed to DDR2. And All i need is a 1GB stick of DDR, but that runs into the problem of 80$! So i was wondering if there was any stores that I could maybe buy DDR memory for cheap.  Thanks for your help!

You can try newegg.com but DDR RAM is expensive since it isn't used much so there isn't much supply, I have a comp from around 2003 and that is all it can use.

So do you just suggest i get a new laptop all together since Win7 is now released and i am running xp? Plus newer laptops use DDR2 or DDR3

I have DDR RAM in my desktop and it works fine, just the amount is limiting me. If you want to get a new laptop you can. You could get a new laptop and use your current one for a file server or something.

A file server? Yeah, i'm planning on getting a new laptop as soon as i can afford one, and idk what ima use this one for. A fileserver sounds nice, but i also might just use it as a workstation for Ubuntu, or I might use it primarily for a gaming server, like a Counter-Strike server maybe? lol. But thanks for the help!

you realy should provide proof when your making such a bold claim

ddr3 - http://www.ebuyer.com/product/166463
ddr2- http://www.ebuyer.com/product/166818

ddr3 is £10 cheaper in this case, and it has better timmings speeds etc. if your refering to DDR3 TRI-Channel Kits... then obviously they will be more expensive... thats cos there 3 Sticks of ram and tri channels dont exist on ddr2 sticks

heres one lil proof of DDR being expensive http://www.ebuyer.com/product/38992 that is what i would class as basic ram, theres not much u can do with it where as an ethusiast is concerned now imagine 4 x £30 = £120 to get 4gb of ram thats waaaay to expensive... plus not one board that supports ddr can handle that much as i am aware of at this time

A Google search turns up DDR3 being more expensive, I didn't look on ebuyer, sorry. My motherboard can support 4GB of DDR RAM though.

Google DDR2 http://bit.ly/1EqlOF

Google DDR3 http://bit.ly/13gadG

Most people only need DDR2 anyway, but if you want you can get DDR3.

them links only shows random variables, not actual similiarites etc, thats like comparing a small dog to big dog, yet its the breed that defines the similiarities, anywho... threads gone old and op hasnt replied.
