⛏️ Minecraft
The Minecraft Server and Discord are no longer active. Thanks everyone for playing!
The spirit of DuncsWeb lives on, we have a new general chat 🎮 Discord online!
From around 2011, DuncsWeb used to run a public Minecraft Server, with various iterations of maps. At one point, it hit over 200 players online concurrently!
The URL was
mc.duncsweb.com
Our most popular era was a Survival Server using Towns, where players would form their own small communities, recruiting new players as they joined.
The Minecraft Server shut down in 2014 as the general hype for the game had died down, and the community had moved on to other games.
Plugins
While the server was active, we tended not to discuss plugins as the focus was the gameplay, and although most of them were publicly available, one of the tricky parts of keeping a community was retention.
Here's what the "main" DuncsWeb used to run, as there had been various iterations, including a second server and Tekkit, the list is very expandable.

ChestShop | Allowed the use of player shops ingame | Link | No |
PermissionsEx | This defined the various ranks and roles within the server | Link | No |
Essentials | Various commands in the world, including things like Sethome
mcbans | A Global Ban management system
mcMMO | Skill levelling system with a leaderboard
Multiverse | Allowing inventories, portals and warping to worlds
Towny | The core of our survival server, players self-serving towns
WebAuctionPlus | Auction House with Online Listings

While some of these plugins are long outdated, they can still provide value in a containered local environment, i.e. playing with friends or family. With the minecraft launcher, versions can be backdated for compatibility. Spigot, which used to be the core jar, is still updated to this day, and my recommended launcher is Prism Launcher which works well on Windows and Mac (with Apple Silicon too).
Do you still play?
Although the game is now over 15 years old, it has recently had 🎬 A Minecraft Movie made and for me it's still a fun and experimental lab into creativity from players and developers.
While there isn't a public server run anymore, I have a private 💎 Minecraft Server that I self-host for family that we jump into from time to time.
If you have any screenshots of playing on the public server, feel free to submit them, and I'll include them here and credit you.
