🏡 Digital Garden
This page is a seed - part blog, part notebook, always growing.
"So... what is a 'Digital Garden'?"
Great question, Reddit regards it as:
Personal wikis, digital spaces of notes & thoughts
I've recently been getting into the Obsidian note taking application to gather and organise both my personal and professional notes and thoughts.
My aim is to have something similar out there to say:
- I'm still around!
- There's lots to learn
- It's never too late to start
What are the little icons on on each page?
Those are a feature of the Digital Garden Plugin.
Icon Type | Icon | Meaning |
---|---|---|
Small Plant | Page is new, has little detail, or not many links | |
Medium Plant | Page has some information, but isn't heavily linked to other pages | |
Large Plant | Page has lots of information, is a root page, or has lots of links |
Why not just a blog?
My first thoughts were a WordPress Blog, but I've been there and done that, and blogging feels a little long in the tooth. Interconnecting pages is something i'm a big fan of as it mirrors my brain, constantly bouncing from one thing to another.
I also get a synced copy of the entire site in my personal notebook across all my machines, unlike relying on a cloud host where I'm uploading files, if the web host goes down, I can bring it up elsewhere quicker. Obsidian even has its own version of hosting called Obsidian Publish (though this site isn't using that... yet?)
I'm a big fan of Markdown too, the language used in this text, it's easy to learn and great for quick styling, which leaves more time for writing content. As example, type 3 hyphens and a line break automatically gets put in, just like this one:
What about SEO?
SEO, branding, getting the first page in Google and all that fun stuff is no longer a goal of mine, so this fits perfectly. With the age of AI and the focus of Google and search engines going towards summarising information, that type of thing is slowly fading.
Did you know: You can have your own version of Google in your 🏠 HomeLab via an application called 🔍 Searxng
All in all, guess in a way, DuncsWeb has now become a web of information.
I hope you enjoy!
