After earlier this year HP announced it was scrapping WebOS and all the devices based upon it, they have now turned around and announced plans on the future of this operating system.

This week they announced they would be open-sourcing the project meaning that it will be open for developers to tamper with it. Who knows maybe this time next year we will see a new range of WebOS devices by different companies. Any of the details on the license and agreement are yet to be finalize.

HP have said that they will continue investing in development like Google does with its Android Operating system. They have announced that the application framework will become available in coming weeks.

Some more interesting news is that they have said they will incorporate it into more devices in the future , but when this is, is currently unknown.

Some prisons in south korea from march will start seeing robots joining the ranks of prison wardens. They will be looking for abnormal behavior in prisoners.

The Lead designer has said that these will monitor the prison and alert human guards to any suspicious activity.

The robot wardens are 3ft High robots developed by the  Asian forum for Corrections.

The designers claim this will reduce the work load on human prison wardens, but only time will tell when these robot wardens go on trial in March 2012.

If you guys did not know, I gave up on my iPhone 4S to join the Android world with a Samsung Galaxy S2, and boy did I not know what I was missing! The modding community is huge for this device, and the absolute latest, not-yet-released Ice Cream Sandwich Framework is now running on the Galaxy S2 in the form of the “Miui Rom” and is available for download.

Benchmarks are high for this little guy, with a score of over 5000 through quadrant (compared to the 3500 average on the previous version), although the phone has been overclocked to 1.6ghz.

Note that this ROM is in very early stages, and according to the download page “contains no ICS UI Elements”, so don’t expect a rock solid system like the soon-to-be-released Samsung Galaxy Nexus. You’ll be seeing the UI elements from MIUI, but with the framework coupled with CM7, you will have the base ICS 4.0 running on your AT&T Galaxy S II.

As suspected, Apple have silently updated the MacBook Pro line. The official specs are below:

• 13″ MacBook Pro base model has a 2.4 GHz processor and 500 GB hard drive, up from 2.3 GHz and 320 GB.

• 13″ MacBook Pro model has a 2.8 GHz processor and 750 GB hard drive, up from 2.7 GHz and 500 GB.

• 15″ MacBook Pro base model has a 2.2 GHz processor, up from 2.0 GHz. The 500 GB hard drive has not changed. GPU is now a 6750M with 512MB VRAM (up from a 6490M/256).

• 15″ MacBook Pro high-end model has a 2.4 GHz processor, up from 2.3 GHz. The 750 GB hard drive has not changed. GPU is now a 6770M with 1GB of VRAM.

• 17″ MacBook Pro model has a 2.4 GHz processor, up from 2.2 GHz. The 750 GB hard drive has not changed. GPU is also a 6770M with 1 GB VRAM (up from the 6750M).

Oneiric Ocelot is out! The latest version of the Ubuntu operating system.
  The version number is 11.10 and this version brings the
 Gnome 3 shell to the Operating System. You can download the latest version
 of this operating system from http://ubuntu.com/download

It will also be the first version of Ubuntu to use version 3 of the Linux Kernel.
This is a milestone in the Ubuntu era and I have to say that I feel Ubuntu
 can only go up in the world.

Canonical has released the first version of Ubuntu to use version 3.0 of the Linux Kernel. This version of Ubuntu is the Alpha version 3 of the upcoming full release of Ubuntu 11.10 codenamed Oneiric Ocelot in October later this year.

Version 3 of the Alpha includes Driver support for some WiFi adapters made by Realtek. This alpha contains Gnome 3.1.4 meaning that the final version is likely to include version 3.2 of the Gnome interface.

In this version Mozilla Thunderbird has replaced Evoluition Mail as the default Mail client. This will also contain a new version of the Micro Blogging Client Gwibber.
