Create Email Accounts For Your Domain And More With Google Apps
Quite a lot of people have domains nowadays. I am one of them! A few months ago, I bought my own domain and had hosting. My friend Lorne setup Wordpress on it for me and I was all set. Then I realised that alot of people who have domains also have email linked to their domain too and I wanted to know how to do this! Again, my friend Lorne helped me with this and he found Google Apps. A tool created by Google, obviously. (If it wasn’t, there’s be a pretty big lawsuit involved!) If you have a domain and hosting (EG: Lockernerd, GoDaddy, etc) and want to do this too, read on!
To do this, you will have to know how to upload a simple HTML file to your FTP hosting. If you are unable to do this, you cannot have the features talked about using this service. You also need to know how to change an MX Entry. If you have CPanel, you can find out by watching the video embedded below. If not, you will have to find out yourself. Remember, Google is your very best friend!
Unless you’re willing to read a mile long post explaining how to setup Google Apps (which you’re probably not), you want to know how to create an account in video form. If not, this isn’t the post for you! With the kind permission of my good friend Lorne (surprise, surprise…), I can post his video of how to setup Google Apps for your domain.
ComputerGeek396’s Google Apps Tutorial
Once your Google Apps account is online and working, you’re good to go! Now you can setup email accounts, sites, chat accounts and more! Each and every one is powered by Google, but you can customise them quite thoroughly. For example, I change the logo where GMail would be to some text to my site logo. Cool, eh?
Google Apps is a unique and useful tool capable of quite a lot. All you need is a little bit of knowledge in site making, and it’s as pie. (I’m so cliché…)
Thanks for reading,
Tommy!
