I was definitely excited to see Mozilla head into the world of music management a few months ago.
After giving it time to develop i thought it was time to give it try and actually uninstalled iTunes to give it a fair test.
To be honest i really wasn’t expecting that much. I went ahead and downloaded and then saw how much intergration and addons this software has already. Staggering stuff.
Intergration from:
7 Digital Music Store
MashTape
LastFM Scroblling
LastFM Radio
Concert Tickets
ShoutCast Radio
and hundreds of themes and addons inc. MediaFlow (based on iTunes’ CoverFlow).
After using it for about an hour and playing with its highly customizable interface i realised that this could be a real powerhouse and serious contender when the first official release comes out.
iPod support is good too. It already has support, via an addon, for all platforms minus the iPhone and iPod Touch.
Performance and functionality are still a major issue though. In about 2 hours use the program ‘not responded’ about four times when trying out different features.
But watch out! Songbird is powerful and it will surely give Apple something to think about.

Aye Song bird is good, it’s going to be flying up at the top ten tweets … on Twitter
Nice first post Dan, keep them coming
I would like to say the Songbird looks pretty cool but since I use both an AppleTV and an iPhone I’m stuck with iTunes. Luckily I find iTunes to do what I need it to, but mashTape and Concerts sounds fantastic.
