I have been using Ubuntu Linux for a while, but recently unnistalled, why? I needed the Hard Drive Space, but i’m willing to install it again. I installed Ubuntu using Wubi, a tiny .exe file, that let’s you install not only Ubuntu, but Kubuntu, Xubuntu, and MythUbuntu aswell.

When I ran the Wubi Installer, it came with a simple window, asking to choose the version of Ubuntu, your username, your password, and to choose the Hard Drive space you need for it, the minimum is 4GB. When I clicked install, it started downloading the 64Bit version of Ubuntu, and the download speed was very quick, and I downloaded it in less than 10 minutes. After that, it calculated the Checksums, to check if the Ubuntu .iso file didin’t had any viruses, and I just rebooted the PC and selected “Ubuntu”, from the boot menu. When loading Ubuntu, it was a little slow, but it ended up starting the installation. It just taked some 10 minutes to install, and after that, it rebooted itself. I selected “Windows 7” first, to see if it corrupted Windows files, and it didin’t, so I just selected Ubuntu again, and it came up with the logon screen of Ubuntu, that looks very nice. When the desktop showed, I had an error asking me to install my Language Files (Portuguese), so I just installed it, and rebooted the machine. When I came to the desktop again, it had my language packs installed. Internet was detected, sound was detected, but the Compiz effects weren’t enabled. When I tried to enable them, it didin’t work, so I just searched on Google, and a result worked.
After making Compiz to work, I installed programs, that are on Windows too. All worked flawlessly, including XChat, that is paid on Windows, but free on Linux instead. I installed Wine too, Emesene, Audacity, and many other programs. For the people that might be saying “Linux doesn’t have many programs”, that’s not true. Linux has alot of programs, including some that are on Windows, and even games, like OpenArena. I had one problem though, my Microphone and Webcam didin’t work on Ubuntu, but I wouldn’t really be making videos, or using my Webcam on Ubuntu. One thing that I quite liked on Ubuntu, is that you can do alot of customizing on it, you can have specific window borders, and alot of other stuff, it reminds me of Windowblinds, by Stardock, that you actually have to pay for, but on Ubuntu is free! One thing that I also noticed, is that Firefox 3.5 isin’t on Ubuntu for some reason, but you can download Swiftfox, it’s basically Firefox 3.5, but for Linux, and you can use all the addons that you used on Windows or Mac, on Linux. Overall, it was a great experience on Linux, and I might install it again, I recommend you all to try the Live CD of it, or just try Wubi, because you can unnistall it quickly, and it doesn’t have the Grub bootloader, that I don’t really like.
So that’s basically my Experience on Ubuntu, if you didin’t know, i’m Nuno A.K.A NunoKaKa85, i’m a new writer on here, and i’m very proud to be one. You can check me out at YouTube and on Twitter, so thanks guys, see you all at my next post
